Family photography in McClelland Sculpture Park

It’s the beginning of the winter holidays and you are probably like me wondering how I am going to keep the kids busy! Here are some activities to keep them busy outdoors. Making sure that they have a few outings and catch-ups with friends will give you some peace at home while keeping them engaged. Outdoor activities are a great way to keep the cost down and also they don’t have to be complicated.

  1. Try a new sport together: This could be a great option to open their minds to a new activity and maybe unlock a passion. I know we mentioned mainly outdoor activities but some options for a rainy day could include: Climbing and bouldering, Indoor Skateboard, Roller skates or roller blades, lacrosse, grass hockey, or golf. Some great options could be taking a lesson or looking for instructions on youtube.

  2. Do a flower arrangement: This is a great excuse to go for a long walk and forage for some native flowers. Hopefully, this will distract them and encourage the young ones to walk further while looking for pretty flowers. Remember for this activity to bring some pruning scissors and a basket to collect your bounty. Once you are home, you can put them in a jar or do something more laborious like a flower crown, a table runner, or an arrangement with wire and floral foam.

  3. Go Kayaking: Consider renting a Kayak. There are number of places that offer Kayak rental like Albert Park Lake. Reach out to a Sailing club as they also offer open days and most offer a few sessions free of charge to come and try.

  4. Discover a new park: McClelland Sculpture park is a great place to discover and explore. With a great garden is a great place to run around and explore while discovering great sculptures.

  5. Camp at home: Sometimes the weather is not on our side, but camping at home can also be a ton of fun. Have some set rules and special treats to make it a fun night under the stars.

  6. Decorate your driveway: chalk is great for this activity. Choose your theme and run with it. Patterns are always fun and a great way to decorate.

I hope these activities will keep you and your tribe busy over the winter holidays. In the meantime here is a recent extended family photoshoot att the McClelland Sculpture Park.
