Few places in Melbourne combine history, nature and family-friendly spaces quite like Carlton Gardens. Sitting on the edge of Melbourne's CBD, this UNESCO World Heritage-listed park has become one of my favourite locations for relaxed family photography, and it's easy to see why so many local families return here year after year.
As a Family Photographer in Carlton Gardens, I'm always looking for locations where children can simply be themselves. The best family photographs rarely happen when everyone is standing perfectly still looking at the camera. They happen while your little ones are running across the grass, collecting autumn leaves, watching ducks on the ponds or holding your hand as you wander beneath towering trees. Like any busy public park, weekends and public holidays can bring larger crowds, and the public amenities occasionally receive mixed reviews. Fortunately, with a little local knowledge and careful planning, it's easy to choose quieter times and make the most of everything the gardens have to offer.
